Text Structure

We have been focusing a lot on text structure, which I think is really helping my students with understanding non fiction reads!  This week we are reviewing one a day, so I created a Text Structure item at my TPT store!  I really love this product and it is a great resource!  Last day of this item's sale is today!

Missing Numbers in Multiplication and Division

This week the third grade has been focusing on missing numbers in multiplication and division sentences.  We worked a lot on this, but still struggle and needed additional practice.  I made this Missing Numbers Pack.

This pack includes a matching game my students loved!!!

Fact Families

I wanted to write a quick post for our Friday project last week.  One of my AmAzInG team mates came up with this cute idea!  Snowman fact families! The students loved making them and it was super easy to get together!

All you need is 5 white circles,  small black square (for the hat- we showed the students how to fold and cut an L shape for the hat,) yarn we had the students braid it for the scarf and some glitter and cotton balls for snow!

Multiplication Properties Review

Well today was a LONG day, but we got a lot done despite quite a few interruptions!  In math today we reviewed all the multiplication properties.  We did this by making a cute foldable  I got the idea from one of my amazing team members! (It's a FREEBIE at my TPT Store Right Now!)

First we made the anchor chart below together.
Then I modeled how to make the book and showed them my example then it was their turn I think they turned out great!

We finished the day by playing Multiplication Property Scoot check it out at my TPT Store! They love scoot so much!

Pilgrim Pack

Just finished this Pilgrim Pack today!  This is a good way to still be festive, but students who don't celebrate Thanksgiving can still participate in these activities.

I created a poem that goes along with critical thinking questions and a cause and effect chart.

Distributive Property

WoW, when I first started thinking about teaching distributive property to 3rd graders, I just could NOT wrap my head around the best approach.  My team and I searched and searched and found some resources, but nothing that taught me how to teach third graders this concept. PLUS my school is project based, so I needed some type of craft activity to go along with this.

I found myself thinking what can I make to show distributive property basically chopping arrays in half...BAM it hit me The Distributive Destroyer Ninja! He karate chops arrays into smaller ones!  I am really excited to do this with the kiddos! Check it out at
 My TPT Store!

This is the craft we make on Day 3 of the plans!

Area and Equal Groups!

I wanted to share some fun things my 3rd grade team did to kick off multiplication this year, and a fun area activity!

We did a lot with multiplication and still are, but probably one of my favorite activities we did went along with the book If you Give a Cat a Cupcake by Laura Numeroff.  My fabulous Team Mate found this great resource from Amy Lemons! Check out how it turned out below!

We also had to tackle Area the first quarter this year, I must say the kids really had fun and grasped the concept pretty quickly! I got the Graph for the dream house off of Teachers Pay Teachers from Blair Turner, but I made my own recording sheet for the kids.  I will upload that FREEBIE on Tuesday!

Math Centers

This year my math centers have been running so smoothly!  I have 3 stations: A task card station, a review station and the teacher station.  My students absolutely love the task card station and it is a perfect daily review of skills they have practiced! I will write more about my stations later, but I made some more task cards that are now available at my TPT store. Check them out HERE

This months task cards focus on word problems because my kids can really use the extra exposure! I wrote addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and multi step problems!

Welcome to Teacher's Plate

This is my 4th year teaching and my first year as a 3rd grade teacher! I am definitely feeling some OAA pressure with this whole 3rd grade guarantee!  I work in a low income school and I am finding I need to create and find a lot of my own materials to teach the common core standards! This blog will show my adventure and share my creations with other teachers!
